Spikey Coasters - Crochet Pattern

Spikey Coasters

Materials

Yarn - Color A - I used Lily Sugar N Cream for both yarns.
Yarn - Color B
US size G 4.25 mm Crochet Hook
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Abbreviations

MR= Magic Ring/Magic Circle
Ch = Chain Stitch
DC = Double Crochet Stitch
Sl st = Slip Stitch
SDC-1 = Spike Double Crochet Stitch One Row Down {Work dc as usual except insert hook one row below instead of in next st}

Pattern Notes

- Only doing 11 dc into the MR is intentional to ensure that the right number of stitches are there to work the spikes into.

- Be careful with your tension while making the spiked stitches. It might take a few tries to get it right.

- The spike stitch works over the next stitch essentially skipping it. When starting the following 2dc in 1 st, you are working into the stitch after that skipped stitch.

Instructions

Round 1:  With Color A start with MR, ch 2. 11 dc. Pull ring closed. Join with sl st into top of 1st dc.

Round 2: Ch 2. In same st as sl st, 2 dc. 2dc in each stitch around. Before completing last dc, join Color B and complete stitch. Join with sl st in top of 1st dc. (24 sts)

Round 3:  Ch 2. In same st as sl st, 2dc. SDC-1. {2 dc in next stitch. SDC-1} Repeat {} until you have 12 spikes, join Color A before completing last SDC-1. Join with sl st into top of 1st dc. (36 sts)

Round 4:  Ch 2. In same st as sl st, 2dc. Dc in next two sts. {2dc in next st. Dc in next two sts.} Repeat {} around. Join with sl st into top of 1st dc. (48 sts)

Bind off and weave in ends.
